Mark Gehey has uploaded a video of his Manchester City teammates after they failed to qualify for one. Gehry, 25, was ruled out of the 2-0 victory over Arsenal at Wembley Stadium.

The January transfer signing was not banned because the player was cup-tied, having already played in the competition this season before signing from Crystal Palace just after Christmas. If that were the case, fellow January recruit Anthony Semino would also be banned from competing under the Wembley Arch.

Instead, the England international was prevented from playing in the final because he was not registered with the club before City’s semi-final first leg against Newcastle United. Seminyo was able to compete, as he was signed and registered before the clash against the Magpies.

As a result, Gehry could not compete against Mikel Arteta in the final. Judging by his recent social media post, the central defender was disappointed he could not play his part in City’s ninth League Cup victory.

He posted a slow-motion video of City’s players waving the League Cup trophy in the air during the trophy celebration in the Wembley stands. Gehey added the caption: “What a team and performance. So proud of the boys.”

Ahead of the final, Guardiola made his displeasure with Gehly’s ban from the semi-final and final matches in the competition obvious. In his press conference, the Catalan said, “Hopefully we can convince the Carabao Cup (EFL) that Marc can play the final. I don’t understand why he can’t play in the final.

“Hopefully we’ll make a letter. You buy a player for a lot of money and he’s not able to play because of a rule. I don’t understand. Hopefully they can change it. It’s difficult to understand.”

Instead, Abdulkadir Khasanov and Nathan Ake were trusted to lead the city’s defence. The Uzbek and Dutchman did a flawless job against the Premier League leaders.

City secured victory thanks to a remarkable brace from Nico O’Reilly, who dazzled with his exceptional runs into the box from left-back. After the match, an elated Guardiola said, “For James [Trafford], it was the first final he played in. [Abdukodir] Khushnov After just one year here, Nico O’Reilly impressed me in his first full season and Anton [Semenyo] played his first final.

“There are a lot of players who have had their first experience but it’s good; that’s what we need. It tells us that, OK, we can do it.

“Still, we are a lot better than last season but not the team we should be. It takes time. “Hopefully next season, and at the end of this season, we can do that.”
