Zahra Mariam Bolkiah is the adorable baby’s name, which the royal couple revealed along with the first picture of the child.

In the picture, he lovingly holds his daughter in his arms with his wife, Anisha, by his side, and he revealed that they have named her Zahra Mariam Bolkiah. The photo was captioned: “Zahra Mariam Bolkiah [red heart emoji], Anisha and I are extremely grateful to the incredible team at JPMC for their exceptional care and support and are extremely grateful to everyone for their kind wishes.

Many fans took to the comments section to congratulate the couple, with one user writing, ”

Welcome to the world, beautiful babe Zahra Mariam Bolkiah.”

Another said, “Congratulations to you both [heart emoji].” A third said, “Congratulations to Anisha and you. What a wonderful day and blessing.”

This development comes just days after the couple shared the happy news of the birth of Zahra Maryam. Abdul Mateen and Anisha made the announcement in a national broadcast on Sunday. The announcement revealed that the newborn girl was born at 8.50 am on Sunday.

It also revealed celebrations following the joyous news, in which 17 cannons were fired at the grounds of Istana Nurul Iman, the official residence of the Sultan of Brunei.

Brunei’s national public broadcaster, RTB, said in a post on Instagram: “In compliance with the orders of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Saaddul Khairi Wadian,

Sultan of Brunei Darussalam and Yang di-Pertuan, the Office of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang of Brunei Di-Pertuan Darussalam hereby declares that Her Royal Highness Princess Anisha Rosnah binti Adam,

wife of His Royal Highness Prince Muda Abdul Mateen Ibni, married to His Royal Highness Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddullah, by the permission of Allah Subhanahu Watala, on Sunday, the 20th of Siyaban, 1447, on 8 February, gave birth to a daughter safely in 2026 at 8.50 am.

The royal couple announced they were expecting last October, when the prince shared a sweet, black-and-white photo with his wife on his official Instagram account.

The photo, which showed them both wearing white and dancing slowly on the balcony, carried the message: “And then there were 3.”

Although the new baby will be a welcomed member of Brunei’s royal family, she will not be eligible to join the line of succession.

The Constitution of Brunei states that succession to the Brunei throne follows agnatic inheritance, which allows only male descendants of the 26th Sultan, Muhammad Jamalul Alam II, to ascend the throne.

Abdul Matin himself is fifth in line to the Brunei throne, behind Crown Prince Al-Muhtadi Billah, his two sons, Prince Abdul Muntakim and Prince Muhammad Aiman, and the Sultan’s second son, Prince Abdul Malik, who is fourth.

The Sultan’s third son, Prince Abdul Azim, died in 2020 at the age of 38.
