A busy Spanish airport was forced to halt operations over the weekend.

Cesar Manrique-Lanzarote airport was briefly paralyzed after 4pm on Sunday after the drone was spotted. Spanish air traffic controllers said on X: “Operations at Lanzarote airport are halted due to the presence of a drone nearby. Incoming traffic is in a holding pattern. There is a delay for safety reasons.”

It was not immediately clear whether any flights to or from Britain were affected. The runway is understood to have been closed for about an hour before normal operations resumed.

Pilots of incoming flights were asked to enter a holding pattern before being allowed to land. No one was forced to divert to other airports in the Canary Islands. It is not yet known who was operating the drone, although the police are investigating.

unauthorised use of drones for recreational purposes in restricted areas such as airports can result in a fine of up to €200,000 (approximately £200,000). For commercial use, the fine could rise to €4.5 million (£3.9 million).

In September last year, three planes filled with holidaymakers were diverted from Fuenteventura airport after at least one drone was spotted over the Canary Islands’ Playa Blanca area, south of El Matortal.

The diverted flights were travelling from Seville, Santiago de Compostela and Gran Canaria. The Ryanair flight from Santiago de Compostela was diverted to Lanzarote, while the other two were redirected to Gran Canaria Airport.

Earlier this Sunday, holidaymakers were evacuated from Tenerife North Airport for more than an hour after smoke was seen in the boarding area.

Hundreds of passengers were ordered to evacuate around 8:30 a.m. when firefighters were called. It later emerged that the smoke was caused by a fire in a café inside the airport, which is about seven miles from the island’s capital, Santa Cruz.

Some passengers missed flights, though it was not immediately clear Monday how many passengers needed to reaccommodate themselves. Footage from the scene shows a thick cloud of white smoke near the boarding gate.

A witness said, “I was one of the first to see it and the Civil Guard came and ordered us to leave the area. There was smoke coming out of some grills on the floor.”

Another described the smell as similar to burnt rubber and said her flight was “half full” without him but with his checked luggage.

Spanish airport operator Aena confirmed just before noon on Sunday: “There has been an incident with smoke at Tenerife North-Ciudad de la Laguna airport and the boarding area has been evacuated.

“Airport firefighters are responding to the area. If you are traveling please consult your airline about your flight.” It later said, “The situation at the airport is returning to normal. There has been a slight delay in outbound flights.”

Banks ask court to declare Nochi Dankner bankrupt

1

The loan agreement signed with the banks three months ago by IDB Group’s former controlling shareholder Nochi Dankner has collapsed. As a result, the banks today filed a request to declare Dankner bankrupt in the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court. Dankner recently failed to pay the banks as part of the new debt settlement.

Dankner allegedly failed to make the payments because the expected investment in his food tech company, Hoshen, did not materialise, leaving him without the funds that were supposed to finance the ongoing payments to the banks.

Last January Dankner revised the loan agreement it signed in 2016 with Bank Leumi, Bank Hapoalim, Israel Discount Bank, Mizrahi Tefahot Bank, Credit Suisse and Union Bank. According to the new arrangement, Dankner pledged to immediately pay the banks NIS 5 million, pledge all his rights in the will of his late father, Yitzhak Dankner, and give the banks the right to appoint an external supervisor to attend the sale of the central property in the will – Beit HaShinhav in Jerusalem. According to banks’ estimates, Dankner’s rights in the property are worth between NIS 90–150 million. However, Dankner was unable to meet his debts beyond the initial payment of NIS 2.5 million.

Originally, Dankner owed more than NIS 500 million to the banks for loans previously made to two private companies through which he controlled the IDB. To date, Dankner has repaid approximately NIS 110 million of the NIS 180 million he promised to repay as part of the debt settlement. The amount of money Dankner has repaid so far includes the NIS 20 million interest it paid on the total of the settlement, as well as a final payment of NIS 5 million. As a result, Dankner has another NIS 90 million to repay as part of the settlement.

“He repeatedly breached his obligations.”

The request submitted to the court by the banks states that Dankner “was given several opportunities to repay his debts to the banks, but from time to time he violatedobligations while requesting a postponement oftpone the signed debt settlement.”

“Now, since the debtor has exhausted all options and does not appear to be able to meet its obligations, it appears that the only way to protect the interests of its creditors and other stakeholders is to initiate insolvency proceedings against the debtor,” the bank says.

The banks’ request details how, since the original loan settlement was signed in 2016,

They have granted him four deferrals of payment: in July 2017, June 2019, August 2020 and July 2023.

The banks are therefore asking the court to appoint a trustee for Dankner’s estate, stating that this would “benefit all creditors and help his creditors maximise the repayment of their debts”.

The request also reveals that Dankner’s total debt to banks, including interest, amounts to NIS 419 million. The largest creditor is Bank Hapoalim, which Dankner owes NIS 175 million; Bank Leumi then loaned NIS 162 million to the private companies Gandon Holdings and Gandon Investments, through which they held the IDB. Dankner was a personal guarantor for these loans, as well as for the loans of his cousin Danny Dankner.

Ankner’s other loans are to Discount Bank (approximately NIS 120 million) and Mizrahi Tefahot Bank (approximately NIS 90 million).

The banks stressed that for almost two years they had given Dankner “repeated extensions” and negotiated with him to repay the loan, but according to them, he had not fulfilled his obligations.

Dankner: I will continue to act in good faith and transparency

Nochi Denkner said, “I have worked to the best of my ability for many years to repay my obligations with the view that this debt is a moral obligation of the highest level. Over the past decade, I have worked tirelessly; taken initiative; worked day and night; and paid out a significant cumulative amount of approximately NIS 110 million.

“In recent months, I have reached an agreement with an investor to sell some of my shares in the foodtech company I founded in exchange for his additional investment in the company as well as millions of shekels. I intended to use these proceeds to repay my debts and continue to grow the company. Unfortunately, the investor reneged on his commitment. As I have acted so far in good faith, with transparency and full cooperation, I will continue to act from now on. “My hope is that the process will be conducted with respect and fairness.”

Anthony Joshua vs. Christine Peringa announced as Tyson Fury fight begins

1

Anthony Joshua will fight Christian Peringa this summer, it has been announced, as “AJ” prepares for a long-awaited showdown with Tyson Fury.

Joshua will box in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on July 25, it was confirmed on Monday.

A press release from Matchroom made no reference to Fury, but promotion head Eddie Hearn did free up others this month that “AJ” will likely face before taking on Fury. Hearn also hinted that such a warm-up contest would take place this summer.

And the opponent in question will be the relative unknown Peringa, a 35-year-old Albanian with a professional record of 20-1 (20 KOs). Meanwhile, Joshua has his record at 29-4 (26 KOs).

Joshua, a former two-time world heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medallist, last fought in December, stopping YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in six rounds in Miami. Ten days later, Joshua survived a fatal car accident in Nigeria that killed two of his colleagues: Sina Gami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

Since then, Joshua has been training in his native Ukraine with former rival Oleksandr Usyk. Usyk outlasted Joshua in 2021 and 2022 before doing so twice against Fury in 2024.

Joshua, 36, and Fury, 37, have been linked for years and even signed a deal to fight in 2021, when each was the British world heavyweight champion. However, the bout ended when Fury’s rival, Deontay Wilder, threatened legal action, leading to a trilogy bout with the “Gipsy King”. Roush moved to stop Wilder a second time.

But the Joshua bout has long eluded fight fans – until now, it seems. It’s likely that Joshua vs. Paringa is part of a deal that will see AJ box Fury later in 2026.

Oil prices soar as US and Iran locked in costly standoff

1

World shares were mixed on Monday, as Brent crude oil prices rose by $2.50 a barrel early in the day, while talks on ending the war between the US and Iran remained stalled.

Oil prices have risen sharply since the war began due to disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

On Monday, Brent futures were up more than 1% at $106.47 a barrel, having initially traded near a multi-week high of $108.50 hit earlier in the session.

“It may be that expectations of a diplomatic breakthrough were too weak to begin with, and markets are now in wait-and-see territory ahead of a heavy week of earnings and economic touchpoints,” said Darren Nathan, head of equity research at Hargreaves Lansdown.

With energy prices higher, the U.S. Federal Reserve is expected to keep interest rates unchanged on Wednesday, followed by the European Central Bank and the Bank of England making similar decisions, which analysts believe will keep stock prices bullish.

Markets in London, Paris and Frankfurt advanced despite higher oil prices and a lack of progress in talks. US futures were broadly steady before trading.

Asian markets showed a mixed performance on Monday, with Tokyo and Seoul benefiting from a technical rally, while Hong Kong slipped.

Investors also looked forward to earnings this week from US tech giants Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple.

“Investors have been encouraged by the corporate news flow over the past few weeks, which has pushed equity prices higher,” said Russ Mould, investment director at AJ Bell.

However, he also said, “Prolonged high oil spells trouble for inflation, which in turn could create a headwind for the economy.”

World Snooker Championship last-16 clash between Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins heading for a thrilling finish

0

Seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry said, “John has been incredible and it’s wonderful that he’s in this match.”

“Last night [in Saturday’s first session], for whatever reason, he really struggled.”

“Ronnie had an excellent game, but John looked really un-Higgins.

Maybe it was a bit of nervousness, a bit of intimidation, but he has struggled to stay in this match. Ronnie didn’t seem like that player.”

After a break of 83 from Higgins in the ninth frame, O’Sullivan made two consecutive wins thanks to runs of 116 and 80, maintaining a five-frame lead at 8–3.

Higgins won his 12th, but O’Sullivan’s break of 91 put the Englishman 9–4 ahead.

But the last three frames were extremely dramatic. Higgins looked in control on the 14th, with O’Sullivan needing a snooker to have any chance, which he got, although he could not take advantage.

Higgins finished 15th on a black-ball finish before O’Sullivan hit the table early in the final frame of the night.

His mood did not improve when he potted a long red but then saw the cue ball go into the same pocket; this foul proved crucial as Higgins took the frame to give himself some hope.

O’Sullivan is battling to make the Crucible quarter-finals for the 24th time and is seeking an eighth world title, which would be a record in the modern era.

He was watched by former Manchester United footballer Paul Scholes during his 10-2 first-round victory over Chinese newcomer He Guoqiang and this time, UFC fighter Paddy Pimblett and Liverpool defender Milos Kerkes were in attendance.

They, along with the rest of the Crucible crowd, must have left thoroughly entertained.

London Marathon 2026 results: Sebastien Savay makes history with first competitive sub-two-hour marathon

1

Sebastian Sauve made history by becoming the first athlete to run a marathon under two hours in a competitive race at the London Marathon.

The 30-year-old Kenyan crossed the victory line in 1:59:30, more than a minute faster than Kelvin Kiptom’s previous record of 2:00:35, set in 2023.

The great Eliud Kipchoge became the first person to run a marathon in under two hours in 2019, but it was not record-eligible because it was conducted under controlled conditions.

Already on world record pace after passing the halfway mark in 1:00:29, Sawe was able to run even faster than Kipchoge’s time in the second half of the race.

Sava made his decisive move before the final 10 km, with only debutant Yomif Kejelcha able to cover his surge from the front.

Notably, Kjellcha became the second person to run under two hours in race conditions and finished runner-up in 1:59:41.

Half marathon world record holder Jacob Kiplimo also surpassed Kiptom’s previous record, finishing the podium in 2:00:28.

“I’m feeling good. I’m pleased. This is a day to remember for me,” Savay said, speaking on BBC TV.

“We started the race well. Nearing the end of the race, I was feeling strong. Finally reaching the finish line, I looked at the time, and I was very excited.”

Why Man United star won’t be in squad against Brentford despite hints of selection

1

JJ Gabriel has impressed with his performances for the U18s this season and is training with the Manchester United first team.

JJ Gabriel has been training with the United first team for the past few days.

Manchester United youngster JJ Gabriel will not be included in the club’s matchday squad against Brentford due to Premier League rules. The 15-year-old has been a regular for the Under-18s this season.

In his 26 appearances for the youth side in all competitions, he scored 23 times, much to the delight of United fans. However, he missed the latest Premier League Under-18s game as he was involved in first-team training, with the United youngsters suffering a 2-1 defeat against Sunderland.

United are planning to include the youngster in their pre-season plans in the summer to show him there is a route to the first team. But he won’t be on the Premier League matchday squad, despite his first-team involvement this season.

Because Gabriel was only 14 when the season started, Premier League rules mean he is ineligible to play in the competition. However, he could be included in the squad for the FA Cup earlier in the campaign.

He will therefore not be included in the squad for Monday night’s clash against Brentford, despite being in the first team for the past few days.

Emad posted a video on social media on Sunday in which the youngster apologised after losing a training ground battle against the Ivory Coast international. Gabriel said to the camera: “I’m sorry, Emad, for challenging you in a shooting competition. I will never compete with you again. But if I do, I will beat you!”

Integrating him into training now is an indication of what’s to come in pre-season and the 2026/27 campaign, should the youngster continue his development.

Emad’s messages suggest that he has already settled into the team’s first environment.

United U18s are back in action on Wednesday when they host Liverpool in the U18 Premier League (12.30pm kick-off). Gabriel’s inclusion in the squad for this match remains uncertain.

They face Newcastle (A) and Stoke City (H) in their remaining fixtures before facing Man City in the FA Youth Cup final.

After the game against Brentford, United return to action next Sunday when they host Liverpool at Old Trafford (3.30pm kick-off). They then face Sunderland’s (A), Nottingham Forest’s (H), and Brighton’s (A).
