The USA ice hockey has a total of 11 medals up for grabs but hasn’t brought home a gold medal since 1980, more than 45 years ago. Their only gold medal came in 1960.
But 2026 will mark the first time since 2014 that the NHL players have participated in Olympic ice hockey. Historically, the NHL and the International Olympic Committee failed to reach an agreement on allowing NHL players to participate. In both 2018 and 2022, it affected the United States, Canada and many other countries.
With the NHL once again included, Canada is the favourite for the gold medal in Milan. However, the United States won gold in women’s ice hockey by beating Canada.
