Drug cartel members allegedly gang-raped a 13-year-old girl, mistaking her for the girlfriend of a drug smuggler from a rival gang. One phone call reportedly ended the ordeal for the teenager, who was eventually released when her attackers realised she was not their target.

As well as receiving death threats and a “shot wound to the head”, the girl was attacked in the municipality of São João de Meriti in the Baixada Fluminense region of Brazil, South America.

After the horrific incident in Predinhos, Vilar dos Teles, the girl was released when her attackers learned her identity, but she claims she was warned that her family would be killed if she reported the attack to the authorities.

Yesterday (11 February) the Rio Civil Police launched an operation to capture those responsible, with enquiries indicating that the girl was brought before a “Drug Trafficking Court” or “Drug Trafficking Tribunal”.

It was here that the criminals allegedly punished him for the barbaric act. Police say seven people were involved in the crime, including a teenager and a woman who held the girl, G1.

Forces sought to execute five arrest warrants and one search and seizure warrant for the juvenile suspect.

The adults were named as Samir Luan Evangelista dos Santos, Matheus Eduardo da Silva Fernandes, Kalyn Aparecida Nascimento Teixeira, Fabio Ryan Santos de Jesus and the already jailed Wellington de Medeiros da Silva.

Further details revealed that one of the seven was murdered by the criminals, while another person was arrested following their attack. It was noted that the arrested man, who had a criminal record of rape and drug trafficking, was found in the hospital.

Agents from the São João de Meriti Women’s Police Station (DEAM) described how the victim lived close to the Trio do Ouro community, which was reputedly under the control of the criminal organisation Terceiro Comando Puro, or “Third Pure Command”.

It was said that she was in the area because her relatives lived there, but she was mistakenly targeted because it was believed that she was the girlfriend of a member of the Comando Vermelho, or “Red Command”.

Narrating the incident to the police, the victim alleged that she was with a friend at the intersection when a group of men came and forced her to sit in a vehicle.

The victim, who is in stable condition, went to the hospital for treatment and reportedly stayed there until recently, when she was transferred to a health unit in a different municipality to be examined by a neurosurgery team.

The Military Police stressed that policing in the area has been strengthened and “cases of this nature are dealt with with utmost rigour, sensitivity and respect for the victim”.

Civil police also noted that as soon as they learned of the crime, DEAM teams immediately began questioning, O Globo reported.
