Millie Bobby Brown has starred in Stranger Things since its launch in 2016
Fans have meticulously dissected scenes and delved into previous seasons, attempting to piece together the potential ending of The Upside Down.
At 01:00 GMT, viewers flocked to watch the final episode, concluding the 10-year run of the sci-fi horror series.
Some fans also attended special cinema screenings of the finale in cities across the US and Canada, several of which were attended by the show’s stars.
Stranger Things, a 2016 television series set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, stars Millie Bobby Brown, Winona Ryder, and David Harbour.
The dramatic two-hour series finale, titled Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up, initially overloaded Netflix servers.
Several fans said they were shown an error message as they tried to play it – something that often happens with big new releases on streaming platforms.
But the episode was soon restored, and viewers were able to watch a finale that included massive battle scenes and emotional tributes that brought all five seasons together, giving closure to the characters that we’ve fallen in love with over the years.
Finn Wolfhard was cheered by fans as he arrived to introduce the finale at a screening in Vancouver
A lot was riding on Netflix and The Duffer Brothers, who created the 1980s-inspired, monster-infused, interdimensional series. Ending any beloved series comes with both anticipation and a lot of critics.
So far this season,
Fans have meticulously dissected scenes and delved into previous seasons, attempting to piece together the potential ending of The Upside Down.
Viewers have been quick to point out gaps in the story or issues they felt with the scriptwriting, pointing out flaws in Will Byers’ coming-out scene or issues such as Holly Wheeler’s jacket having a logo for Under Armour (a brand that wasn’t created until 1996) appearing on screen.
Countless theories discussed on social media only hyped up the ending of this saga.
Fans guessed about possibilities like time travel coming into play (clocks have been a major plot point for multiple seasons, after all), took bets on which main character might die and some had far-fetched thoughts about Henry Creel “Vecna” using mind control on the characters throughout this season to explain various holes in the storytelling.

Actress Cara Buono attended a premiere in New York and introduced the finale on a cinema stage.
In the finale, we see an epic final fight that requires all the characters to finally defeat Vecna and the Mind Flayer before worlds merge and Hawkins, Indiana – and Earth as we know it —take over.
We don’t see dramatic deaths in the core group of stars we’ve come to love over five seasons – though we did see the death of Kali (Eight).
What happened to Eleven, though, is up for interpretation. She is left with an impossible choice.
At first, viewers are left to believe she chose to remain behind in the Upside Down as it explodes and is demolished forever in order to eliminate the possibility of being used to create more children with powers like hers.
But later, in a lengthy epilogue scene, Mike Wheeler takes us down another possibility – Eleven uses Kali’s illusion powers to make it seem as though she died before making a grand escape.
Netflix
He says he thinks she finally made it to the place they talked about running off to – a land with three waterfalls.
Mike says it’s what he likes to believe – and each member of their Dungeons and Dragons party – Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max – all agree that they, too, believe.
It’s a fitting end that leaves open the possibility that Eleven, too, has a happy ending.
The epilogue transports us 18 months into the future, following the destruction of the Upside Down and the defeat of Vecna, along with the Mind Flayer.
Hooper and Joyce announce their engagement, while the older teens discuss their university and career journeys.
It’s a happy ending for everyone.
Despite the epic finale, the last episode left some unanswered questions about the story.

The finale received a full cinematic release in theatres in the US and Canada.
Fans in Los Angeles stood in the rain for hours outside The Egyptian Theatre along Hollywood Boulevard to watch it in one of Netflix’s very own theatres.
The streaming giant, which is currently attempting to purchase Warner Bros, renovated the historic 1922 theatre and now uses it to host premieres and special screenings of projects.
Fans, many dressed up as characters or demogorgons, took pictures in the Stranger Things-themed lobby. Netflix handed out special merchandise, such as T-shirts and figurines.
While waiting for the special screening, fans in the theatre speculated on who might die or how it would end. Many pointed to popular theories of Steve Harrington’s demise and clung to hope that he would survive the last battle.

Fans Liv and Alina Valdez described the ending as “an emotional roller coaster.”.
Liv and Alina Valdez, dressed up as fan -favourite buds Steve Harrington and Dustin Henderson, said they couldn’t have been more pleased with how it all ended.
“It’s been basically 10 years,” Liv told BBC News, wearing Harrington’s Scoops Ahoy ice cream shop uniform outside the theatre.
“The Duffer Brothers did a good job of giving the audience what we needed, maybe not necessarily what we wanted.”
They both applauded the both happy-at-times and, perhaps, bittersweet ending.
“It was an emotional roller coaster,” Alina added, noting Eleven’s up-for-interpretation ending was perfectly done.
“It was just many emotions,” Diana Espinoza told the BBC, standing in the lobby of the theatre with a new Demogorgon plush.
“I lost control of my tears!”
She donned a lengthy mind-flayer dress to the screening and said she’d attempted in vain to steer clear of various fan theories that have been going viral on social media because she wanted to be “blown away” by the final episode.
Being in a theatre filled with fellow fans who were screaming and crying during pivotal scenes was an unforgettable experience.
“I loved the finale. There was no better way to end this,” she said, calling it both bittersweet and emotional and the “happy ending” that everyone deserved.
Watch a BBC report from the scene of a Swiss resort bar fire.
Southern Switzerland has killed several dozen people
A fire at a ski resort in southern Switzerland has killed several dozen people and injured more than 100, authorities have said.
Police said several nationalities were likely involved in the New Year’s Day blaze, which broke out at a bar called Le Constellation in the resort of Crans-Montana at 01:30 local time (00:30 GMT).
The region’s chief prosecutor said it was being treated as a fire and that there was “no question” of an attack.
A helpline has been set up for concerned families: +41 848 112 117
At a news conference Thursday morning, police said “several dozen” people had died in the fire, although it was too early to give an exact number.
Citing Swiss police, the Italian Foreign Ministry expressed its belief that the fire claimed the lives of approximately 40 people.
Swiss officials reported that about 100 people sustained injuries, with the majority suffering from severe burns. According to local officials, most have been taken to Valais Hospital, where the intensive care unit is now full. A burn unit has been made available in Milan, neighbouring country Italy.
Ten helicopters, 40 ambulances and 150 emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene.
Beatrice Pillaud, the region’s chief prosecutor, said work was continuing to identify the victims and return the bodies to families as quickly as possible.
Italy’s ambassador to Switzerland says it may take several weeks to identify the dead. Earlier, Italy’s Foreign Minister had said that identification would be difficult due to the severe burns.
Multiple nationalities are believed to be involved, with French media reporting that at least two of the injured are French citizens.
French President Emmanuel Macron has offered Switzerland “the full solidarity of France and our brotherly support.”.
Britain’s embassy in Switzerland says it is monitoring the situation but has not been contacted for assistance.
The cause is currently unknown but Ms Pillaud said it was currently being treated as a fire and “there is no question of an attack at any time.”
When asked about earlier reports of the explosion, regional security officer Stephen Ganzer said that it was “not the detonation of an explosive device that causes the fire; it is the fire that, when developed, causes an explosion and a general fire in the premises”.
Two French nationals said they were at the bar at the time and saw a waitress placing a birthday candle on top of a champagne bottle.
“One of the candles was placed too close to the ceiling, causing a fire. Within seconds, the entire ceiling burnt down. Everything was made of wood.” Emma and Alban told French media outlet BFMTV.
He described the evacuation as “very difficult” as the escape route was “narrow” and the stairs to the exit were “even narrower”.
Regional police commander Friedrich Geisler said smoke was first seen coming from a bar at around 01:30 local time, at which time emergency services were called.
Mr Geisler said that first police officers immediately reached the spot and then a large deployment of rescue teams was made.
What do we know about Le Constellation Bar?
Le Constellation is a large bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana that has been around for many years.
BBC correspondent Sylvia Costello reported from the resort that, although the resort itself is quite expensive, Le Constellation was not particularly luxurious.
On the upper floor there is an area with TV screens where people go to watch football matches. There is a large bar downstairs where people were probably drinking and dancing.
It could seat 300 people and had a small terrace, although it is unknown how many people were there at the time of the fire.
The Christmas and New Year holidays are one of the busiest times of year for Alpine ski resorts, and it was likely that the bar was packed with Swiss people and tourists celebrating the start of 2026.

Police have released photos from inside the bar after the fire, showing chairs and benches scattered across the room
Since being handed over to Britain in the 18th century, Brits have been flocking to Gibraltar to enjoy its southern Mediterranean climate, low taxes, cheap drinks and practically zero crime and illegal immigration.
The British Overseas Territory (BOT) on the southern coast of Spain is renowned for its British-style pubs and cheap alcohol prices, which are generally cheaper than in the UK due to its duty-free status.
Prices for a pint can be quite low, with some pubs offering happy hour deals, such as £2.95 per pint.
Food prices in pubs for typical pub grub, such as fish and chips or cottage pie, are also generally considered reasonable and excellent value for money compared to many hotspots on the UK mainland.
However, due to Keir Starmer’s “sellout” after Brexit, many locals fear that this much-loved way of life is “under threat.”
Earlier this month, the Prime Minister finalized a UK-EU post-Brexit deal for Gibraltar.
This deal will create a “fluid border” by shifting checks to Gibraltar’s airport and port. This effectively integrates Gibraltar with the Schengen Area.
The agreement means that Spanish and EU authorities will carry out border checks for entry into EU territory.
Under the agreement, British tourists entering Gibraltar will have to show their passport twice, once to a Gibraltarian and then to a Spanish guard.
This is part of the “dual” entry system, which former Tory leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith has condemned as a “ridiculous disaster.”
Residents have shared their frustrations and concerns about Starmer’s new deal, with many worried that criminals will take advantage of it and destroy the low crime rates.
Tony ‘Dale’ Farmer, who runs the Quarterdeck Tavern, decorated with Union and St George flags, said to Sun, “I like the border because it keeps the conflict away.
A mother of two and 33-year-old customer service worker, Zyja Poggio, said Gibraltar is “the best place to live in the world” currently: ”
“The children can walk themselves to school, and I can go jogging at 3 in the morning without fearing my safety.”
“But once the border opens, anyone can come and go and that worries me because our way of life will be at risk.”
Recent data shows that there has been a significant influx of Britons moving to Gibraltar, with at least 3,000 new resident permits granted in just three months.
UK citizens now make up a large proportion of the total population, around 10,000 to 13,000 people, or about 30 to 40%.
Here are some of the well-known faces no longer with us: the first non-European Pope in more than 1,000 years, the Oscar-winning star of Annie Hall and The Godfather, a soul legend, and one of the world’s most famous designers.
Among those we remember are Hollywood stars Robert Redford, Diane Keaton and Gene Hackman, and theatrical dames Joan Plowright and Patricia Routledge.

Robert Redford’s acting career spanned more than 50 films and won him an Oscar as a director. For many filmgoers though,
He was simply the best-looking cinema star in the world – once described as “a chunk of Mount Rushmore levered into stonewashed jeans.”.
As well as leading roles in hits such as All The President’s Men, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Way We Were, Redford also launched the Sundance Film Festival to champion independent filmmakers
Diane Keaton

Apart from starring in the sitcom Fawlty Towers, she played many other roles on screen and stage, including Queen Elizabeth II in Alan Bennett’s play,
A Question of Attribution. She also enjoyed an unlikely hit late in life on Channel 4’s Great Canal Journeys, travelling waterways in the UK and elsewhere with her husband, the actor Timothy West.

He had been handpicked for his breakout role on the final day of a nationwide audition – “I was literally the last person they saw,” he recalled in a 2023 interview.
More recently, Warner appeared on several television programs, including Malcolm & Eddie and The Resident.

Brigitte Bardot, a French actress, swept away cinema’s staid 1950s’ portrayal of women and personified a new age of sexual liberation.
On screen, Brigitte Bardot was a cocktail of kittenish charm and continental sensuality.

His early actions in the office included washing the feet of the elderly and prisoners and advocating for the rights of refugees and migrants.
Francis’s papacy introduced several reforms to the Catholic Church; however, he remained a traditionalist regarding many of its teachings. He was at times supportive of some kind of same-sex union for gay couples but did not favour calling it marriage.
He also took part in an anti-abortion march in Rome, calling for rights for the unborn “from the moment of conception.”
He died on Easter Monday, less than 24 hours after his last public appearance, in front of a crowd of worshippers at St Peter’s Square in the Vatican.

Bulgaria – the poorest country in the European Union – has become the 21st member of the eurozone, leapfrogging more obvious and prosperous candidates like Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
For mostly urban, young and entrepreneurial Bulgarians, it’s an optimistic and potentially lucrative leap –
the final move in a game that has brought Bulgaria into the European mainstream – from NATO and EU membership to joining the Schengen Zone and now the euro.
For the older, rural, more conservative parts of the population, the replacement of the Bulgarian lev by the euro provokes fear and resentment.
The lev – meaning lion – has been the Bulgarian currency since 1881.
Opinion polls put Bulgaria’s 6.5 million population more or less equally divided on the new currency, and political turmoil is not making the transition easy.
Bulgaria has held seven elections in the past four years.
Zhelyazkov’s coalition government lost a confidence vote on 11 December, after mass protests against the 2026 budget. Bulgaria has held seven elections in the past four years – an eighth looks likely early next year.
“I don’t want the euro, and I don’t like the way it has been imposed on us,” Todor, 50, a small business owner in the central town of Gabrovo, at the foot of the Balkan mountains, told the BBC.
“If there were a referendum, I reckon 70% of the people would vote against it.”
President Rumen Radev proposed a referendum on euro adoption, but the outgoing government rejected it.
Todor’s business, producing coloured plastics for the domestic market, had a bad year because of high inflation, he said, and a fall in sales was fuelled, he believed, by fear of the euro.
Ognian Enev, 60, who owns a tea shop in central Sofia, was more enthusiastic. “On the whole, it’s a good thing. It’s just a technical change. It doesn’t bother me,” he told the BBC.
He noted that individuals who have previously purchased flats or cars have become accustomed to seeing prices in euros. The 1.2 million Bulgarians who live outside the country have also been sending money home for years in euros.
Throughout January, you can pay in both lev and euros, but change is supposed to be in euros. From 1 February, it will no longer be permitted to pay in lev.
He hopes joining the single currency will be good for trade—many of his flavoured and fruity teas come from sellers in the eurozone, while the more expensive, high-end teas are imported directly from China and Japan.
Since August 2025, all shops in Bulgaria have been required by law to display prices in both currencies.
Conveniently, €1 is worth about two lev (1.95583 to be exact). In response to public fears that prices will be rounded up, elaborate watchdogs have been created to protect consumers. The government has rounded down some prices, resulting in a slight decrease in the cost of public transport in Sofia, the capital.
The design on the reverse side of the new euro coins was chosen to overcome worries that Bulgaria is losing its sovereignty. St. Ivan of Rila is depicted on the €1 coin, while Paisius of Hilendar, an 18th Century monk and champion of the national revival, is featured on the €2 coin.
An 18th-century monk and champion of the national revival is on the €2 coin.
The smaller denomination euro cents carry an image of the Madara rider, a symbol of early Bulgarian statehood, based on an 8th-century rock relief.
Just how the new currency will impact Bulgaria as a whole concerns everyone.
The lessons from other countries offer two versions – the successful “Baltic model” followed by Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania,
which combined the euro with reforms to streamline administration, encourage investment and combat corruption. And the “Italian model”, where years of stagnation followed.
The Indian rupee is set to face sharp and persistent volatility through 2026 as capital outflows,
Tariff-related trade disruptions and weak foreign investment flows continue to outweigh the country’s strong macroeconomic fundamentals, analysts and official data indicate, PTI reported.
Despite steady growth and moderate inflation at home,
the currency is unlikely to find a durable floor until uncertainty around tariffs eases, with market participants cautioning that a trade agreement with the US,
While helpful, it may not be sufficient on its own to stabilise the rupee.
The rupee has weakened nearly 5% since crossing the 85-per-dollar level in January and has slipped past the historic low of 91 against the US dollar.
Over the year, it has depreciated more than 19% against the euro, about 14% versus the British pound and over 5% against the Japanese yen.
making it the worst-performing currency among Asian peers even as the dollar index fell over 10% and global crude oil prices remained weak.
The slide accelerated after sweeping reciprocal tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump in April triggered sustained foreign portfolio outflows.
as global investors shifted capital to other emerging markets offering better risk-adjusted returns. The pressure is evident in investment flows.
On a net basis, foreign direct investment between January and October this year turned negative, while total investment inflows declined to minus $0.010 billion during the period.
compared with inflows of $23 billion in the year-ago period. Net FDI stood at $6.567 billion, while net portfolio investment remained negative at minus $6.575 billion.
“FDI acts as the anchor flow for the balance of payments. When that anchor weakens, the currency becomes more dependent on portfolio flows;
forex markets turn more sensitive to global risk sentiment, and central bank intervention requirements increase,” said Anindya Banerjee,
head of currency and commodity research at Kotak Securities, PTI quoted.
The rupee’s decline intensified in the final quarter.
The rupee’s decline intensified in the final quarter of the year. It dropped more than 1% in a single session on November 21 to 89.66 per dollar.
breached the 90 level on December 2 and crossed the 91 mark on December 16.
The government has attributed the depreciation to a widening trade deficit and delays in finalising a trade pact with the US amid weak support from the capital accounts.
Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary told the Rajya Sabha on December 16 that the rupee’s slide had been influenced by the increase in the trade gap and developments related to the India-US trade agreement.
RBI governor Sanjay Malhotra has said the central bank does not target any specific exchange rate level.
while analysts note that recent rate cuts aimed at supporting domestic growth have reduced the rupee’s relative attractiveness.
Dilip Parmar, research analyst at HDFC Securities, described the situation as a capital account-driven crisis, noting that shrinking inflows, rather than trade alone, are driving the decline.
The RBI has also shifted towards a more flexible exchange rate regime, which the IMF classifies as a “crawl-like” arrangement.
The depletion in net foreign investment inflows has further amplified volatility.
A sharp decline in FDI has reduced long-term dollar inflows, making the rupee more dependent on volatile portfolio flows,” said Jateen Trivedi, VP research analyst.
commodity and currency, LKP Securities, PTI quoted. “Higher commodity prices and elevated risk on US trade deals kept FDI away and impacted the rupee majority due to lack of intent in inflows and going elsewhere, which are our competitors.”
Trivedi added. RBI data also shows a depletion of $10.9 billion in foreign exchange reserves during July–September FY26, compared with an accretion of $18.6 billion in the same period a year earlier.
The record $17.5-billion exit by foreign institutional investors in 2025 has added to dollar demand, intensifying pressure on the rupee.
Analysts expect the current account deficit to widen to around 2% or more in 2026 as the full impact of US penalty tariffs feeds into exports, increasing structural demand for dollars. “
A trade pact with the US would help, but it is not a silver bullet.”
Banerjee said. Despite near-term stress, analysts say India’s growth trajectory and inflation profile provide a long-term anchor for the currency.
Banerjee expects the rupee to test the 92–93 levels amid global volatility over the next three to four months.
before potentially entering a phase of appreciation from April as capital flows realign and dollar weakness becomes more evident, with levels of 83–84 seen by the end of FY27.
Mourners held hands folded in prayer and carried flags bearing his photographs, and a convoy carrying Zia’s body – including a hearse draped with the national flag – drove through the streets near Parliament House.
Flags are flying at half-mast and thousands of security officers have been deployed.
“I’ve come all this way just to say goodbye. I know I won’t be able to see her face, but at least I can say goodbye. “I am taking him for the last rites,” said Setara Sultana, an activist from Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), in an interview with the BBC.
Sharmina Siraj, a mother of two, called Zia “an inspiration,” noting that the scholarship started by the former leader to improve women’s education had “a huge impact” on her daughters.
“It is difficult to imagine women in leadership positions at any time,” she told AFP news agency.
Those who attended the funeral included India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Bhutan’s Foreign Minister Lyonpo DN Dhungyel.
Earlier in the day, Zia’s body was taken to the home of her son Tariq Rehman, who was seen reading the Quran next to his mother’s office.
Bereaved people have come from all over the country to attend the funeral of Khaleda Zia.
Zia will be buried next to her husband, Ziaur Rahman, who was assassinated while serving as president in 1981 – an event that thrust her into the political spotlight.
He led the BNP to the country’s first elections in 20 years. She was labelled an “uncompromising leader” after refusing to run in a controversial election in the 1980s under military ruler General Hussain Muhammad Ershad.
For many years, alongside her bitter political rival Sheikh Hasina, she fought for democracy and against military dictatorship, enduring arrests.
At the time, there was discussion among Bangladesh’s rulers about keeping the two “warring begums”—Zia and Hasina—out of politics, in what was then known as the “minus two” formula.
But Zia eventually became prime minister, first in 1991 and then in 2001.
He was detained in 2007 during the military-backed caretaker government.
Over the past 16 years, under Hasina’s Awami League government, Zia emerged as the most prominent symbol of resistance to Hasina’s rule, which many viewed as increasingly autocratic.
Supporters have praised Zia’s resilience, stating that she never gave up, refused to compromise her principles, and stuck to her convictions despite various personal and political setbacks, years of protests, and convictions under Hasina’s government.
Hundreds of thousands of people, including those who did not vote for his party, attended the funeral, reflecting his popularity among the public.
People who worked with him remembered a leader who used to ask probing questions while making important decisions.
As economist Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya said, “She made a lasting impression as a political leader who appreciated ideas and valued informed decision-making.”
In his later years, he suffered from several health problems. Despite this, the BNP said it intended to contest elections for parliament in February 2026, when the country will vote for the first time since a popular revolution ousted Hasina from power last year.
According to the party’s candidate list released earlier this month, Zia was to contest from three constituencies.
returned to Bangladesh only last week.
If the party succeeds in regaining power, it anticipates that his son will take on the role of the country’s new leader. Rahman, 60, returned to Bangladesh only last week after 17 years of self-exile in London.
“The nation is mourning the loss of the guiding presence that shaped its democratic aspirations,” Rahman said after his mother’s death on Tuesday.

The first Christmas without 16-year-old Levi Sears was incredibly difficult for his family. Now her parents want others to know about the warning signs and they want the government to step up and take action..
Levi Sear and mother Norlia Sear-Peterson
Christmas is no longer a time of celebration for families who have lost loved ones – something the Sawyer family knows all too well.
One moment Levi Sears was an ordinary 16-year-old hanging out with his friends after school – the next he was lying in a hospital bed, struggling to breathe.
Levi returned home from school complaining of muscle pain – then just hours later he was taken to the hospital, where he tragically died.
It was a sunny September day when the teen developed gastro-like symptoms, nausea and loss of appetite, prompting his worried mother to arrange a GP appointment for the following day.
read more. ‘My brother disappeared 39 years ago while buying eggs – I will not accept that he is dead.’
However, at 1.30am, Norlia was startled to hear a loud noise coming from the bathroom – her son’s condition was deteriorating rapidly and he had started vomiting.
When he became confused and incoherent, his mother called emergency services in desperation. He said, “I have never seen him so sick in my life.” ” Then he asked me, ‘Am I going to die?’ And of course, we’re all like, ‘No.'”
Tragically, Norlia’s deepest fears materialised as Levi was airlifted to Australia Children’s Hospital. About 60 physicians and specialists treated him for more than six hours in intensive care before he passed away.
Ms. Sayer-Petersen said purple ‘spots’ appeared on her son’s face and body before she was intubated to remove fluid from his lungs. Doctors performed CPR on Levi Sear for nearly 90 minutes after informing his heartbroken family that his heart was failing.
Levi Sear had not long since celebrated his 16th birthday.
Less than 24 hours after his initial symptoms appeared, he died of sepsis caused by the deadly bacterial infection meningococcal type B. “The paramedics did everything they could to save him,” Norlia said.
“There was nothing else they could do because the doctor said it (meningitis) spreads through the body like a tsunami.”
The UK has seen an increase in deaths from meningitis in recent times, mainly due to an increase in MenB cases. The year 2022/23 saw a significant increase with 33 deaths, and the recent increase in MenB cases in children aged one to four is particularly worrying.
Although Levi was vaccinated against meningococcal ACWY at school in Australia, the vaccine could not protect against the most deadly strain, meningococcal B. Levi’s mom is now urging parents to educate themselves about the risks associated with not getting vaccinated.
