Today, a former NATO chief has said Britain’s safety and security are “under threat” and the government led by Sir Keir Starmer has shown “corrosive complacency” towards defence. In direct political intervention, Lord Robertson – now a key government adviser – says, “We cannot protect Britain with an ever-increasing welfare budget.”

It comes a day after the IMF warned that the energy shock from the Iran war would hit Britain hardest among the world’s most developed economies.
