Judge orders DNA sample from illegal alien accused in murder of Loyola student

The judge ordered him to provide a DNA sample.

A Venezuelan migrant accused of killing Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman in March appeared in court Wednesday, where a judge ordered him to provide a DNA sample and granted requests related to his medical treatment before trial.

Jose Medina-Medina, a 25-year-old illegal immigrant, is accused of shooting and killing Gorman, 18, on the Rogers Park pier on March 19.

He limped into court Wednesday after federal prosecutors charged Medina-Medina with illegal gun possession earlier this month, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

In addition to the federal charge, he also faces state-level charges, including murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault and illegal weapons possession.

On the murder charge, the state requested that the court order the defendant to submit a DNA sample to the state police. The public defender objected, but the judge granted the motion.

The public defender also requested an examination and presented a health care order taking into account the bullet fragment lodged in Medina-Medina’s nasal cavity.

He asked that his medical records be collected from several hospitals where he received treatment, although no specific facilities were identified.

The state did not object and the judge ordered health care.

Fox News Digital previously reported that Medina-Medina was apprehended at the southern border in 2023, was flagged as a flight risk, and had no valid asylum claim before being released into the US in 2023 under the Biden administration.

Records indicate he did not have a valid U.S. address or identification and was unable to provide a verifiable point of contact.
