A tornado and powerful storm left a trail of destruction; four died. American news

Four people have died due to tornadoes and severe storms in southern Michigan.

The storm destroyed many homes and left hundreds of residents without power.

Shortly after the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for the area on Friday, videos on social media from the cities of Three Rivers and Union City showed the tornado blowing off roofs and scattering debris.

The footage also displayed the destruction of buildings, cars, trees, and overturned road signs.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Office reports that an apparent tornado struck the Union Lake area, resulting in three deaths and 12 injuries.

About 50 miles (80 km) southwest, Cass County officials reported one death and several injuries as a result of the tornado.

At least one tornado was confirmed.

The National Weather Service said at least one tornado was confirmed in southern Michigan on Friday, near Union City, and there were also reports of other possible tornadoes.

In a video taken Thursday, a first responder drove directly at a storm near the western Oklahoma town of Fairview, where lightning illuminated a large funnel that appeared to reach the ground.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said Friday that she has activated a state emergency operations centre to monitor the situation.

“It looks like the local response has been able to address what was a very devastating afternoon and evening in southwest Michigan,” said Clayton Cummins, a spokesman for Michigan Emergency Services and Police.
