Tyson Fury will face an immediate boxing ban after challenging Anthony Joshua.
Tyson Fury will have to spend some time on the boxing sidelines, where he will surely be waiting for Anthony Joshua’s response.
Immediate boxing suspensions have been imposed on Tyson Fury and Arslan Bek Makhmudov following their Netflix bout. The 37-year-old returned to action after 15 months with a commanding points win against Makhmudov.
He scored a wide victory on the judges’ scorecards and immediately challenged English rival Anthony Joshua, who was watching from ringside. However, before any potential bout with AJ could take place, the British Boxing Board of Control banned Fury and Makhmudov from fighting.
Every fighter competing under BBBoC jurisdiction must comply with a mandatory suspension immediately following their bout.
Section 5.4(a) of Rule 5 in the BBBoC’s Rules and Regulations Handbook states: “A boxer shall not box in any bout within six clear days of the date of his last bout.
The Board or Area Council shall have the power to waive this ban in cases where a late substitution is required but the waiver shall be subject to the boxer winning his last bout in the first two rounds. No boxer shall be permitted to compete in more than one bout in a day.”
Fury stepped back into the ring after back-to-back losses to heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk – his only professional loss to date. He has made it clear that he only wants to fight Joshua.
“I challenge you, Anthony Joshua; fight me next. Do you accept?” Anger announced to the audience. However, Joshua refused to confirm whether a bout between the two was on the cards, instead branding Fury a “clout chaser” and saying, “You’re not going to tell me what to do – I’ve been chasing you for 10 years.”
AJ told Netflix: “We’ll see. I just had a serious episode, maybe four months ago. So I really need to see what’s going on when I get back in the ring.
“But I’m here; I’m keeping my eye on the game. Real things are happening in my life. I’m letting someone down. I know what my job is.
“I know what I’m here to do. There are only real things happening in my life that I have to attend to. Once I’m 100 per cent, I’ll be ready.”
Joshua and Fury were expected to face each other in 2021, but an American arbitrator ruled that Gipsy King was legally obligated to fight Deontay Wilder in a rematch because of a clause in their deal. Joshua then had to defend his WBA, IBF and WBO titles against Oleksandr Usyk, who defeated the Brit at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
