Jorginho criticizes Chapelle Rhone security guard for making daughter cry

0

Former Chelsea and Arsenal player Jorginho is best known as a defensive midfielder.

But he has gone viral on social media for his attack on pop singer Chappell Roan, alleging that his security guard brought tears to the eyes of his 11-year-old daughter.

The 34-year-old Italy international, who has dual Brazilian citizenship and now plays for Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro, claimed in an Instagram post that his family encountered a “very disturbing situation” during breakfast at a hotel in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The former Premier League midfielder said his daughter was a big fan of Chappell Rhone and had hinted at going to the Lollapalooza music festival in Sao Paulo, which the singer was headlining.

She says her daughter recognised the star while eating at a nearby table and walked past her, smiled, and then went back to her seat without saying anything or asking the Pink Pony Club singer anything.

“What happened next was completely incomprehensible,” he wrote.

“While they were having breakfast, a large security guard came to their table and started talking to both of my wives in a very aggressive manner. [Catherine Harding] And my daughter, saying that she should not allow my daughter to ‘insult’ or ‘harass’ other people.”

She further added, “He even said that he would file a complaint against them at the hotel while my 11-year-old daughter was sitting there crying. My daughter was extremely shocked and cried a lot.”

The BBC has contacted Chappell Rhone for comment but he has yet to respond to Jorginho’s claims.

The footballer said he understands well the pressure of public attention after playing 57 times for Italy – helping them win the European title in 2021 by beating England at Wembley.

He has also played for elite clubs throughout Europe and Brazil— winning the Champions League and Europa League with Chelsea and silverware in Italy with Napoli.

But he added, “I understand very well what respect and boundaries are. That’s not what happened there. It was just a kid praising someone.”

“It’s sad to see this kind of behaviour from people who should understand the importance of fans. At the end of the day, they’re the ones who make it all happen.

“I sincerely hope this episode will be a moment of reflection. No one should have to go through this, especially not a child.”

Jorginho ended his emotional post with a direct message to Chappell Rhone, which read in capital letters: “Without your fans, you would be nothing. And as for the fans, she does not deserve your affection.”

The “unexpected beef”, as described by some commentators, led to a flood of reactions on social media in support of Jorginho and his family – some serious, some pointed.

The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Cavaliere, wrote that he intended to ban Chappell Roan from performing in his city, adding that Jorginho’s daughter would be invited as guest of honour to the city’s Todo Mundo music festival in May.

Others cited his past comments about fans being “spooky” and “predator-like” as external.

Some even mocked the Grammy Award winner for his lack of ability to play in the Premier League.

Scientists have discovered a plant that can survive on Mars and help create a ‘green planet’

0

Scientists have made a surprising discovery that brings us closer than ever to the concept of a ‘Green Mars’ by discovering a species of desert moss – Syntrichia caninervis – that may be able to act as a pioneer in colonising the Red Planet. A paper published in Innovation (Cell Press) This amazing plant’s abilities to lose over 98 per cent of cellular water and completely resume its photosynthetic activity within two seconds of rehydration have been described. This moss has been tested under ‘Mars simulation’ conditions, where it survived extreme temperatures of up to -196 degrees Celsius and received high doses of radiation, which would be lethal to most living organisms on Earth. It was pointed out by Chinese Academy of Sciences. This moss is therefore classified as ‘extremotolerant’ and has demonstrated greater survivability than tardigrades, providing a biological model with which to aid future terraforming efforts and sustainable oxygen production on other planets.

This ‘dead’ plant comes back to life in 2 seconds after losing 98% of its water

Syntrichia caninervis has been shown to have almost superhuman powers of survival under complete dehydration. Research published in journal Innovation (Cell Press) Algae have been shown to lose as much as 98 per cent of their cellular water and remain dormant for many years. Amazingly, when re-exposed to moisture, this moss can “come back to life” and begin photosynthesis again within two seconds, making it an excellent plant for the dry, dusty conditions of Mars.

ability to survive in adverse conditions

To test its capabilities, scientists placed Kai in a ‘Mars simulation’ chamber, which contained 95 per cent air (carbon dioxide), very low atmospheric pressure and very high levels of ultraviolet radiation (UV). According to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the moss survived the conditions for seven days and then regenerated new green branches. The survival rate of this species under these conditions indicates that it can survive on Mars, where the atmosphere is extremely thin and unbreathable for humans, much better than any other known complex organism.

Beating deep-freeze and radiation

Moss can survive extreme cold and radiation better than any other organism, including tardigrades (water bears). According to the journal The Innovation (Cell Press), the moss was kept at -196 degrees Celsius (in liquid nitrogen) and exposed to 5,000 Gy of radiation for 30 days. Radiation doses of only 5 to 10 Gy are typically lethal to humans, but this moss surprisingly survived up to 5,000 Gy; therefore, the algae is able to repair its DNA, making it a biological tank that can tolerate the harsh cosmic radiation found in deep space.

laying the groundwork for the future

While the moss cannot be eaten by humans, it is a candidate to become a ‘pioneer species’ for humanity to be able to grow food on Mars in the future. According to experts who were quoted ResearchGate, As the moss grows and then decays, it produces organic material that mixes with the sterile Martian sand (regolith), creating fertile soil over time, giving future colonists the opportunity to grow crops like potatoes or oxygen-producing trees in greenhouses on Mars.

Why Ruben Dias is not in Man City squad vs Arsenal as Carabao Cup final teams announced

0

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has ruled out yet another centre-back ahead of the League Cup final with Arsenal.

Manchester City defender Ruben Dias will miss the Carabao Cup final.

Manchester City suffered an injury blow ahead of the Carabao Cup final when Ruben Dias was ruled out of the game with a hamstring injury. The centre-back lasted just 45 minutes against Real Madrid in the Champions League in midweek and was not included in the squad to face Arsenal on Sunday.

It leaves Pep Guardiola without two of his best centre-backs, as Mark Gehey is ineligible due to an obscure rule that disqualifies him for not joining Crystal Palace ahead of City’s semi-final first leg with Newcastle. The January signing will be forced to sit out the game, while Antoine Semenyo could play following his move from Bournemouth.

Without Guehi and Dias, Guardiola has swapped Matheus Nunes and Nico O’Reilly for Uzbek international Abdulkadir Khushanov and Dutch veteran Nathan Ake in defence. John Stones could also feature but is only on the bench, having missed last week’s game at West Ham through injury before returning to the squad against Real.

James starts in the Trafford goal, even though Gianluigi Donnarumma is City’s No. 1. 1. Guardiola has almost always allowed his No. 2 goalkeepers to keep their place in domestic cup competitions, even when the Blues reached the final, with Claudio Bravo, Zack Stephan and Stefan Ortega all at Wembley before.

Mikel Arteta has adopted the same approach at Arsenal, with Kepa Arrizabalaga starting ahead of No. 1. 1 David Raya on Sunday. Capa started for Chelsea in the 2019 League Cup Final against City and refused to come on before the penalty shoot-out and ended up on the losing side.

Arsenal are favourites for Sunday’s game as they look to win the first leg of a historic quadruple this season, but City are still chasing three domestic trophies as Guardiola aims to add another trophy to his collection and become the most successful manager in League Cup history.

Jeffrey Epstein’s guards are shown wandering just steps away from his prison cell

CCTV footage released by the Justice Department shows two corrections officers walking outside the paedophile cell at 3am.

Epstein’s guards are walking away from his cell instead of conducting mandatory rounds

A new video has been released by the Justice Department from the night Jeffrey Epstein was found dead; CCTV footage shows prison guards circling near his cell.

Authorities believe Epstein took his own life between 10.30pm on August 9, the last time a guard checked prisoners, and 6.30am the following day.

The incident happened when officials found the lifeless body of the disgraced financier while serving breakfast to inmates. The guards had apparently ignored warnings and reminders placed on their computers by the officer in charge of the special housing unit, which reminded everyone that Epstein had just been placed on suicide watch.

According to DOJ documents, he was required to have a bunkmate at all times as well as regular check-ins, the New York Post reports. The reminder notes read: “Mandatory [sic] by God, rounds should be conducted on Epstein every 30 minutes!!!”

Roberto Grijalva, an officer at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, where he was detained, later told the DOJ about the warning: “I put it next to the computer. It was something between us that said, ‘Make sure rounds are held and he has a bunkie near him at all times.’ It’s bright orange paper and black letters.”

Grijalva said he had posted the instructions “hanging on the PC, right next to the screen” on August 9 at 2 a.m., shortly before he went home for the weekend.

Epstein was alone after his cellmate,

On the night of his apparent suicide, Epstein was alone after his cellmate, convicted drug dealer Efrain Reyes, was transferred. Grijalva remembered telling his sexual abuser that he was “going to get a bunkie”. Surprised, he replied, “No, I’m fine.”

“He seemed calm,” Grijalva said of Epstein. “He joked because he asked for a new jumper and I told him, ‘No.’ And he said, ‘Why not? I said, ‘This is a prison; this is what you have to do.’ ” ‘No one else has got a jumper; it’s not Versace,’ you know. He’s like, ‘Ha, ha, ha, ha,’ he laughed and that’s it.”

Before leaving for the weekend, Grijava emphasised that he told staff several times that he would need a new cellmate when Epstein returned from a meeting with his lawyers that evening. He also told inspectors that there were several orange bedsheets in the financier’s cell—the same clothes he had used to hang himself— because officials had failed to remove Reyes’ bedsheets when he was discharged.

He said he may have given Epstein some additional medication after he complained of feeling cold at night. “They messed up,” Grijalva said. “Sorry. It’s a big deal.” In this case, many conspiracies, including the guards deployed on duty, have complicated the matter.

While it was officially ruled a suicide, negligence – including the guard sleeping and not investigating – fuelled theories of murder or a staged incident. Earlier this month, The Sun reported how Epstein allegedly flew girls to Britain and paid for the young women to stay in a luxury London flat until his death.

The Metropolitan Police are believed to be investigating whether his victims were trafficked on his jets to commercial airports as well as RAF bases. Meanwhile, at least six police forces are assessing evidence in the Epstein files – including examining 90 flights at Stansted’s private terminal.

Iran has issued a dire threat to Britain after the missile attack on the Diego Garcia base.

Iran has issued a warning threatening British lives after a missile attack on a key military facility it shares with the US.

The nation fired two missiles at the base last night, sending them on a journey that could see them travel more than 2,000 miles across the Indian Ocean, after Keir Starmer agreed the Trump administration could use British bases in its three-week-long attack. None of the missiles hit their intended targets; one failed to launch, and an American warship intercepted another.

Although the attack was foiled, it did not stop Iran from threatening Britain, with a follow-up message warning that British lives were “in danger” due to its assistance to the government.

Ministers on Friday afternoon gave the US permission to strike Iranian missile sites targeting the Strait of Hormuz. Iran reacted angrily, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claiming it would “exercise its right to self-defence”.

Posting on Twitter, he said, “The vast majority of the British people want no part in an Israel-US war of choice on Iran. Ignoring his people, Mr Starmer is putting British lives at risk by allowing UK bases to be used for aggression against Iran. Iran will exercise its right to self-defence.”

Iran has in recent days stepped up attacks on its Gulf neighbours while maintaining a stranglehold on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump said Britain should have “acted rapidly” in allowing the US.

He has already put pressure on NATO allies and called them “cowards” for refusing to offer warships to reopen the strait. RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus was attacked by an Iranian drone after the government granted the US permission for defensive operations from the UK base. It is understood the Prime Minister will hold a Cobra meeting next week to discuss plans to help families with living expenses due to the war.

It is understood Iran targeted the Diego Garcia base before ministers gave it permission to attack missile sites targeting the Strait of Hormuz. The Defence Ministry condemned Iran’s latest attack.

A spokesperson said, “Iran’s reckless attacks, including attacks across the region and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, threaten British interests and British allies. RAF jets and other UK military assets continue to protect our people and personnel in the region.

“This government has allowed the US to use British bases for specific and limited defensive operations.” Downing Street said on Friday that British bases would now be used for US defensive operations to weaken missile sites and capabilities being used to attack ships.

Diego Garcia is about 3,800 km (2,360 mi) from Iran and is home to an airbase capable of accommodating long-range US bombers.

Britain has agreed to hand over sovereignty of the islands to Mauritius and lease the base back. Diego Garcia is strategically valuable to the US and has been used for years as a launchpad for operations in the Middle East. It has a large airfield, major fuel storage facilities, radar installations and a deep-water port.

2 skiers killed, 5 injured in avalanche in northern Italy

0

Two skiers were killed and five others were injured in an avalanche in the Trentino-Alto Adige region in the Italian Alps on Saturday, the mountain rescue service said.

A spokesman said the service’s operations centre received an alert around noon that a dozen skiers were trapped in an avalanche.

“Six helicopters were dispatched,” and nearby hospitals were informed, he said.

The avalanche occurred at about 7,874 feet on the slopes of the 8,757-foot-high Hohe Forse near the town of Ratchings, near the border with Austria, the Associated Press reports.

Rescue workers search the site where an avalanche swept away a group of 10 skiers in Val Ridana in Alto Adige, northern Italy, on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Dozens of rescue workers, as well as firefighters and law enforcement personnel, participate in the search and rescue effort.

A total of 25 skiers were on the hill where the avalanche occurred, but most escaped after being hit by snow, rocks and ice slides.

A few days ago, a Polish man was killed in an avalanche in the same area.

An avalanche warning issued for the area on Saturday rated the danger between low and moderate.

This winter, avalanches have struck Europe. Last month, a series of avalanches in western Austria killed at least five people, including an American. Eight skiers died in three avalanches across Austria in January, authorities said. Avalanches at various alpine resorts in France left six skiers dead.

The Coast Guard rescues 78 migrants trying to reach Britain by crossing the Channel. UK | news

The Channel has rescued dozens of migrants attempting to reach Britain from Belgium after their small boat’s engine broke down. 78 migrants were brought to safety by the French coast guard, meaning more than 100 people have been rescued from small boats in the Channel recently.

The French maritime province said it dispatched several ships on Friday after receiving reports of several boats carrying migrants. A translated statement from the French authority on Saturday morning said, “Following the engine failure of the migrant boat, (the coast guard ship) rescued 78 people, then disembarked them at the pier in Calais for the care of rescue services on land.”

It said, “Determined to reach the United Kingdom, migrants crossing aboard precarious boats refuse assistance offered through French channels and only accept it when facing extremely urgent circumstances.”

On Thursday, rescuers saved 25 individuals travelling in small boats from France and Belgium.

Official figures indicate that around 3,863 people have reached Britain by small boat so far in 2026.

The total includes 144 people who dangerously crossed the river in two boats on Thursday.

French coast guard spokesman said,

Urging others not to attempt the journey, a French coast guard spokesman said, “This maritime area is one of the busiest in the world and weather conditions are often difficult.

“So this stretch is a particularly dangerous area, even when the sea seems fine.”

It came as the Home Office confirmed the head of the UK Border Patrol will step down at the end of March as small boats continue to cross the Channel.

Martin Hewitt is leaving his post as Border Patrol commander after 18 months in the job.

His tenure saw the second-highest annual number of people crossing the Channel, with 41,472 people arriving in the UK by small boat last year.
