Former Manchester United defender Alvaro Carreras was allegedly hit by Real Madrid team-mate Antonio Rudiger during a heated row behind the scenes in the Spanish capital. Tensions seem to be fracturing Los Blancos’ dressing room.

Kylian Mbappe has found himself embroiled in controversy, reportedly involved in a heated dispute with a member of head coach Alvaro Arbeloa’s backroom staff. However, there is also a separate story of Rudiger and Carreras leaving United in 2024.

It has been claimed that the former Chelsea defender “lost his mind” at Carreras, with Spanish reports claiming the German international has hit a left wing. The incident came amid suggestions that Carreras’ dedication had been seriously questioned by the coaching staff and other figures linked to the club.

When the allegations reached the press, the defender issued a statement in his defence. Carreras said: “In recent days, there have been some insinuations and comments about me that do not reflect reality.

“My commitment to this club and the coaches I have worked with has been, and will continue to be, from day one. Since I have returned, I have always acted with the utmost professionalism, respect and dedication. I have fought hard to fulfil my dream of returning home.

“Regarding the incident with a teammate, it was an isolated matter of no significance that has already been resolved. I have a very good relationship with the entire team.”

Athletic reported that Rudiger apologised for the incident and treated several players and their families to lunch as a way to mend fences. While that appears to draw a line under that particular controversy, tensions are still running high inside the dressing room.

Mbappe has since been accused of getting into a heated row with one of Arbeloa’s backroom staff during a training session in April, in which he was acting as a referee. The Frenchman allegedly shouted angry words at the assistant and also sent several insulting remarks his way.

The World Cup winner is currently undergoing a rehabilitation programme for a recently sustained injury. Despite this, he still found himself in the spotlight after being photographed boarding a luxury yacht with his new girlfriend Esther Exposito, just days before his team-mates are due to face Barcelona in El Clasico.

In response to multiple reports from the Spanish press, Mbappé released a statement to the Associated Press. It read: “Part of the criticism is based on an over-interpretation of elements related to the rehabilitation period, which has been strictly monitored by the club, without reflecting the reality of Kylian’s commitment and the work he does every day for the team.”

At a recent press conference, Arbelova refused to pose for photos of Mbappe and his partner on a yacht. When pressed on the matter, he replied mildly: “Each player, in his spare time, does what he thinks fit; it’s not my concern.”

Bumble’s paying users are declining as it bets on an overhaul later this year

0

As Bumble prepares for a major makeover aimed at winning back Gen Z users, who currently rely heavily on dating apps, its latest earnings report indicates that the number of paying users is still declining. In the first quarter of 2026, total paid users fell 21.1% to 3.2 million, down from 4 million a year earlier.

This trend has been the story for the last few quarters. However, during a call to investors this afternoon,

Bumble framed it as a deliberate shift toward higher quality, more intentional users.

So while total revenue fell 14.1% to $212.4 million (although the result was better than expectations), and Bumble app revenue fell to $172.7 million, total average revenue per paying user increased nearly 9%. It also reported higher profits: Net earnings rose to $52.6 million compared to $19.8 million in the year-ago quarter (largely from cuts in sales and marketing expenses).

On the company’s investor call, founder and CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd described the paid-user decline as part of an intentional reset. “This is a period of real transformation at Bumble over the last few quarters,” he said. “We executed a deliberate reset of our member base. We made the clear choice to prioritise quality over quantity, focusing on well-intentioned, engaged members. That decision reduced overall scale but meaningfully improved the health of our ecosystem.”

Still, even with that framework, the shrinking paying user base is difficult to ignore. That’s why most of the conversation on the call was about what would happen next. Bumble is asking investors to wait for its massive turnaround, which it hopes will eventually reverse the trend.

“When do we start to see the improvement in the numbers you’re looking for? Well, the answer is basic. Our technology and next-generation recommendation engine can help connect people more effectively, showing them the individuals they want to meet and enabling them to go on great dates. That’s where the magic happens,” Hurd said.

The overhaul refers to replacing Bumble’s ageing technology platform with a cloud-native, AI-powered platform so it can improve matches and roll out updates more quickly. It has already started rolling out to some users and will expand over the coming months.

However, more noticeable changes are coming later. Bumble said Tuesday that its fully “reimagined” experience for members is now expected to launch in the fourth quarter, with a broader rollout continuing later this year and early next year. The announcement is a little later than previously expected and shows that this is going to be more of a phased rollout than a big relaunch.

And these changes seem quite significant in themselves. The company is confident that the swiping model is outdated and that most matches never turn into actual dates. The company wants to fix these issues by redesigning profiles, changing the way people interact, and focusing more on meeting users in real life.

AI is a big part of that plan. Earlier this year, Bumble introduced a built-in matchmaker called “Bee”, which learns daters’ preferences, relationship goals, and communication style, then suggests matches based on those factors. In a feature called “Dates,” Bee can also tell why two people are suitable for each other before they connect.

Profiles are also changing. Bumble is experimenting with more detailed, “chapter-style” profiles that go beyond just photos and a brief biography.

Additionally, Bumble is also seeing some momentum outside of dating. Its friend-focused app, Bumble BFFs, added a Groups tab last year where users can join chats, plan hangouts, and organise events. According to Hurd, there’s growing engagement, especially among Gen Z women. The company says the number of people joining the group has almost doubled between December and March.

For now, Bumble is kind of in a wait-and-see situation. The hope is that by fine-tuning the way people go from matching to actually going on a date, it can bring users back. But until that new experience is fully revealed, it remains merely a condition.

Nuro receives driverless testing permit ahead of Uber robotaxi service launch

1

Nuro has been given permission to begin driverless testing of its autonomous technology-equipped Lucid Gravity SUVs on public roads in California – vehicles that will eventually be used in Uber’s premium robotaxi service. But the Silicon Valley-based startup backed by Nvidia and Uber says it’s not quite ready to launch.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles, the agency that regulates the testing and deployment of autonomous vehicles in the state, confirmed to TechCrunch on Tuesday that it has amended Nuro’s driverless AV permit to include Lucid Gravity vehicles.

Nuro has had a driverless permit for six years.

But it only applies to operating low-speed delivery vehicles – a programme that was cancelled when the startup pivoted its business model to focus on licensing its technology to companies like Uber.

This latest driverless permit allows Nuro to test Lucid vehicles without a human safety operator behind the wheel. Nuro spokesperson David Salguero told TechCrunch that the company hopes to begin driverless testing later this year, without providing further details about the timing.

The driverless permit is one of several regulatory hurdles that Nuro must overcome before Uber can launch its premium robotaxi service. Nuro must also obtain a driverless ride-hailing permit from the California Public Utilities Commission and a deployment permit from the DMV.

For now, Nuro and Uber are testing Lucid vehicles in autonomous mode with a human safety operator in the driver’s seat. Last month, that test was expanded to allow Uber employees to request an autonomous ride in a Lucid robotaxi through the Uber app — with a human safety operator still on board.

As Neuro progresses in testing, Uber has increased its commitment to Lucid.

When the three-way deal was announced in July 2025, Uber said it would invest $300 million in Lucid and buy 20,000 robotaxi-ready Gravity vehicles. It has since been expanded to $500 million and a minimum of 35,000 robotaxis, with the agreement amended to include at least 10,000 Gravity SUVs and 25,000 EVs built on Lucid’s upcoming mid-size platform.

They will be equipped with EV Neuro’s autonomous vehicle system, powered by Nvidia’s Drive AGX Thor computer. The Lucid Gravity Robotaxi, which was revealed in January, is equipped with high-resolution cameras, solid-state lidar sensors and radar that help the self-driving system understand and operate within real-world environments.

Uber has also invested millions of dollars in Nuro.

Lucid has delivered 75 engineering vehicles to Nuro and Uber and testing and mileage accumulation continue in multiple cities across the United States, the EV maker revealed during its first-quarter earnings call on Tuesday.

Lucid said Tuesday it is on track to begin commercial robotaxi operations in late 2026Depending on regulatory approval, those robotaxi operations might require a driver or have other limitations.l.

Still, Lucid executives struck a positive tone during the call, saying all development and certifications are progressing as expected.

Mikel Arteta is excited to make history with Arsenal in the Champions League.

1

Mikel Arteta praised his “incredible” players for “making history” after Arsenal booked their place in the Champions League final with a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid at the Emirates Stadium.

Bukayo Saka scored the decisive goal on the stroke of half-time to give the Gunners a 2-1 aggregate semi-final victory. They will face either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on May 30.

After Manchester City’s 3-3 draw at Everton on Monday – which puts the Premier League title race in Arsenal’s hands – and their victory over Diego Simeone’s side here just 24 hours later,

Arteta’s men are now just four games away from completing a crucial double and the biggest campaign in the club’s 1,140-year history.

Arsenal has never won Europe’s biggest tournament, and Arteta said, “It was an incredible night. We made history together again and I couldn’t be happier and prouder for everyone involved at this football club.

“The supporters were with us every ball; they made it special and unique, and I’ve never felt like that in this stadium.

We knew how much it meant to everyone. We put everything on the line, the boys did an incredible job, and after 20 years, for the second time in our history, we are back in the Champions League final.

Arsenal will go into the competition as the only unbeaten team this season after an impressive record of 11 wins and three draws. In fact, their 14-match unbeaten run is a new Champions League record for the north London club.

But Arteta’s side next face West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday, before a home match against Burnley and an away clash at Crystal Palace. Three wins would be enough for Arsenal to secure their first Premier League title in 22 years before they travel to Hungary.

And Arteta added: “It’s great. Everyone can feel the energy, the belief, and the change in everything. Let’s use it properly and understand that the margin and difficulty of what we’re trying to achieve are huge but that we have the ability and belief to do it.

“I’m going to thoroughly enjoy it tonight; everyone is enjoying the moment now. However, tomorrow we need to start preparing for Sunday. We have an incredible game against West Ham, which is really tough, and we have four days to do that. Let’s enjoy the moment but start living in the present tomorrow.”

In the closing moments of the game, Atleti head coach Simone pushed Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta on the touchline. However, he proved formidable even in defeat.

Simeone said, “If we got knocked out, it’s because our opponents deserved to go through. I would rather not make excuses.

“Mikel Arteta has done an incredible job at Arsenal. He has been trying to get to this point for a long time, to win the Premier League and the Champions League.

They have incredible financial power tied to what they’re doing, and I’m happy for them because they deserve it.

Hegseth says the US-Iran ceasefire remains intact for now, as Trump wants to finalize a deal.

1

Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday defined Project Freedom,

a one-day US military operation to help commercial ships stuck in the Persian Gulf exit through the Strait of Hormuz, as completely separate from the hostilities with Iran that began with joint US-Israeli strikes on the country on February 28.

“This operation is separate and distinct from Operation Epic Fury. Project Freedom is defensive in nature, focused in scope and temporary in duration, with the same mission: protecting innocent commercial shipping from Iranian aggression,” Hegseth said in a press briefing.

Hegseth said U.S. forces would not need to enter Iranian waters or airspace for Project Freedom, adding: “We are not looking for a fight.”

“But Iran cannot be allowed to block innocent countries and their goods from international waterways,” he said.

“Iran’s plan, a form of international extortion, is unacceptable,” Hegseth said. “It ends with Project Freedom.”

Hegseth said U.S. Warships and aircraft assisting two commercial ships transiting the strait on Monday showed that “the lane is clear.”

He said US Central Command is actively communicating with hundreds of ships around the world that “want to get out of the Iranian trap that they are trapped inside.”

“We would prefer this to be a peaceful operation, but we are closed and deployed to protect our people, our ships, our aircraft and this mission,” he said. “To Iran: Let innocent ships pass freely. These international waters belong to all countries and should not be taxed or controlled by Iran.

Teenage prodigy Paul Seixas will start the Tour de France this July.

0

Teenage super-talent Paul Seixas will make his Tour de France debut this July, his team confirmed on Monday.

Speculation has been rife for months as to whether the 19-year-old Frenchman will return to action after a string of impressive results in Barcelona this summer or whether his Decathlon-CMA CGM squad will protect him from the weight of expectations – particularly the home favourite by the French press – and the gruelling physical challenge of riding the Tour, a grand age for such a trio of youngsters.

Saxas is only in his first full season as a professional rider and has never ridden in a Grand Tour. But he made headlines with some notable performances, winning the Itzulia Basque Country stage race and La Flèche Wallonne in April, as well as finishing second – behind only Tadej Pogačar – in the Strade Bianche and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

His victory in the Basque Country made him the first Frenchman to win a World Tour-level stage race since Christophe Moreau won the 2007 Criterium du Dauphin, as he claimed all four jerseys and won three stages.

These results, along with the maturity of his performances – particularly his ability and willingness to compete with Pogačar – mean he is already being touted as the successor to Bernard Hinault, the last Frenchman to win the Tour de France in 1985.

Decathlon has previously indicated that its summer programme will be reassessed after the Ardennes Classics, with the best results more likely to start the tour there.

The team released a video of Sexas sharing news of his plans to ride the Tour with his grandparents, with the caption “J’ai quelque chose à vous annoncer… I have something to tell you.”

The Lyon teenager has previously said his biggest dream is to win the Tour de France. The race starts in Barcelona on July 4 and ends in Paris on July 26 this year.

Defending champion Pogačar lines up as the undisputed favourite after another impressive spring campaign, with his main rivals, Jonas Vingegaard and Remko Evenepoel, expected to challenge.

Decathlon will have reason to hope for a podium finish and stage win for the youngster after Sachs’ excellent start to the season, while from a more commercial perspective his participation will promote the French-based team.

US government warns of serious copyfail bug affecting major versions of Linux

1

A serious security vulnerability affecting nearly every version of the Linux operating system has left defenders on alert and scrambling to patch after security researchers publicly released exploit code that allows attackers to take complete control of vulnerable systems.

The US government says the bug, called “CopyFail,” now exists. Malicious hackers are exploiting the forest, which means they are actively using it in their campaigns.

bug, Officially tracked as CVE-2026-31431 and discovered in Linux kernel versions 7.0 and earlier, reported to the security team for the Linux kernel in late March, and patched about a week later. But the patches have still not fully reached many Linux distributions that rely on the vulnerable kernel, leaving any system running an affected Linux version at risk of being compromised.

Linux widely powers the computers that run most of the world’s datacentres in enterprise settings.

The Copyfail website says the same small Python script “roots every Linux distribution shipped since 2017.”

According to security firm Theory, who discovered copyfair, the vulnerability was verified in several widely used versions of Linux, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.1, Ubuntu 24.04 (LTS), and Amazon Linux 2023, as well as SUSE 16.

In a blog post, DevOps engineer and developer Jorijn Schrijvershof wrote that this exploit works on Debian and Fedora editions, as well as Kubernetes, which relies on the Linux kernel. Schrijvershof described the bug as having an “unusually large blast radius” because it works on “almost every modern distribution” of Linux.

The bug is called copyfail because the affected component in the Linux kernel, the core of the operating system, which has full access to virtually the entire device, does not copy some data when it should do so. This corrupts sensitive data within the kernel, allowing the attacker to gain access to the rest of the system, including the kernel’s data.

If exploited, the bug is particularly problematic because it allows a regular, limited-access user to gain full-administrator access on an affected Linux system. A successful compromise of servers in a data centre could allow an attacker to gain access to every application, server, and database of multiple corporate customers, and potentially to other systems on the same network or data centre.

The CopyFail bug cannot be used alone on the Internet, but it can be weaponised when used in conjunction with an exploit that operates on the Internet. Per Microsoft, if the CopyFail bug is combined with another vulnerability that can be distributed over the Internet, an attacker could use the flaw to gain root access to an affected server. A user running a Linux computer with a vulnerable kernel could also trick themselves into opening a malicious link or attachment that triggers the vulnerability.

Bugs can also be injected through supply chain attacks, in which malicious actors hack into an open-source developer’s account and plant malware in their code to compromise a large number of devices at once.

Given the risk to federal enterprise networks, the US cybersecurity agency CISA ordered that all civilian federal agencies must fix any affected systems by May 15.
