The Met Police have issued a major update after several politicians called on the force to investigate whether Lord Mandelson broke the law over his emails to Jeffrey Epstein. MPs from across the party said the force should investigate whether he was guilty of misconduct in public office, after new emails showed him leaking sensitive government secrets that could have helped Epstein make money.
On Monday, Met Police Commander Ella Marriott said, “
We are aware of the release of millions of court documents by the United States Department of Justice in relation to Jeffrey Epstein. Following this release and subsequent media reporting, the Met has received several reports relating to alleged misconduct in public office. All reports will be reviewed to determine whether they meet the criminal threshold for investigation.
“As with any case, we will assess and investigate appropriately if new and relevant information comes to our attention.”

Earlier, the Met Police received formal calls from both Reform UK and the SNP to launch an investigation, with Robert Jenrick telling MPs that the former ambassador “clearly broke the law… and should be prosecuted for his crimes”.
The former shadow Justice Secretary criticised, “Peter Mandelson is accused of leaking market-sensitive information to a paedophile for cash. He doesn’t deserve to sit in Parliament receiving taxpayers’ money. Reform will end this national embarrassment and bring in a law to out him.
“If Keir Starmer had a moral compass, he would support it.”
Stephen Flynn, the SNP leader at Westminster, also wrote to Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley, saying, “The widespread allegations and suspicion of criminal activity need to be addressed urgently; I therefore believe it is now essential that a formal, criminal investigation be launched by the Metropolitan Police.”

The Lib Dem leader, Sir Ed Davey, said, “The Epstein files reveal that Peter Mandelson leaked sensitive government information to a convicted sex offender while working as a minister and even suggested that a US bank should threaten the government to reduce its tax bill.
“These allegations are incredibly serious; it is now right that police investigate Peter Mandelson for possible misconduct in public office.”
Lord Mandelson broke his silence on Monday following the release of the latest embarrassing emails, insisting he will not go into hiding and still wants to play a role in politics.
The disgraced co-worker stressed that he has been through many crises before and has always bounced back, adding: “A friend told me, ‘Remember, tough times don’t last long. Tough people last… That’s the belief I hold on to.’
Addressing his future, Lord Mandelson said, “I want to contribute ideas that make Britain stronger and better able to work for everyone in every part of the country.
“The problem for me now is that work has always defined me. Everything else has always been an add-on. So I’ll find things to do.”
